In between there we have a Lucent 8400B Plus Data module which seems to be in a test mode. The Red and Green light is alternating 500ms flashes. We replaced it with another and its doing the same thing. I have tried to hyperterminal into the Data module with no success, and everything I have seen suggested dialing into it witha modem? Which seems quite awkward. Anyone have any idea what could be wrong? The 2nd one was an old one we had laying around the office, so it is possible that they are both bad, however according to the manuals the lights we are seeing are a test mode, and not a bad piece of hardware. Any help would be much appreciated.Check Out Our Whitepaper Library. After some diging around I was able to trace everything back to the following information.tested the line from the Data Module to the PBX Frame Room, and everything tests ok there... In my opinion its something to do with the programing of the Data-Module itself. I don't know how to get into programing of the module itself. I've tried hyperterminal like I said earlier with no success.the ext the data module is on is programmed to the following settings.Data Ext: 58105Type: pdmPort: 04D0324ITC: restrictedName: CDR Data ModuleCOS: 6COR: 91TN:1BCC: 2Remote Loop-Around Test? ySecondary data module? nConnted to: dtstelcoguy (MIS)11 Mar 08 18:10 The data modules are not as responsive on screen as a modem, but they should react.Find the doc here:http://support.avaya.com/elmodocs2/multivantage/020709_2/020709_2.pdfWhat is the status on your CDR interface? is that up? (sta cdr 1).If it's down try a busy/release on the CDR.I usually test them by hooking them up to my own pc, and then dial back into one of the NETCON channels.Blight (Vendor)12 Mar 08 11:40 CDR 1 is up, when I hook up the module do i need to busyout the data module? Cause I have tried that it still goes into the 250ms Pulse Green 750ms pulse red alternating on all 3 modules(2 used 1 new) that we ahve tried... I have tried to conenct to the module using hyper terminal connected directly to me to no luck.I'm at a complete loss... No one seems to know whats going on... Any help is greatley appreciated.Blight (Vendor)12 Mar 08 11:43 also, We have another Call Accounting system hooked up for loging on base that is receving the CDR data just fine... In tune to about 60k calls every 4 hours. Blight (Vendor)12 Mar 08 11:55 after ruling out a bad module, and confirming that the CDR is workign correctly I went back to square one and read through the entire manual a 3rd time... After looking at the lights again It seems I was looking at them incorrectly and according to the manual it is not getting info from the PBX.... That tells me two things, or secondary CDR is down(no one seems to know if that was what was supplying the Data Module with the Call Records), or its a wireing problem... I just took over this position as switch admin 1.5 weeks ago, so I'm unsure one what was done before I got here, or what was working or not.oldtimer27 (TechnicalUser)12 Mar 08 16:36 It could be a wiring problem. Each 8400b is assigned a extension number and is wired to a 4 wire digital station port. Try entering "list data" and see if any data-modules are named primary, secondary cdr or cdr1, cdr2. Once you have identified the data-module extension number you can trace out the wiring and run tests on the data-module or "status data-module XXX" and see if the switch sees the 8400b. When you "status cdr" does it show the secondary CDR link assigned? If it is it should show the dat-mod extension number, if it is not assigned it would explain everthing.Blight (Vendor)12 Mar 08 17:07 does it have to be a 4wire? its currently hooked up as a 2wire digital. The secondary CDR is down retries 999 oldtimer27 (TechnicalUser)12 Mar 08 17:37 DOH! yes it can be a 2 wire. can you run a test data-module on it? Does it say disconnected when you status dat-module xxx?oldtimer27 (TechnicalUser)12 Mar 08 17:46 I'm leaving for the day. Once you get the data-module number enter "status data-module XXXX" if it says disconnected its most likely a wire problem, check for continuity of the wire.Blight (Vendor)13 Mar 08 11:00 I do status data xxxxx and its inservice/idle oldtimer27 (TechnicalUser)13 Mar 08 14:07 That means your good from the board to the 8400. When you enter "status cdr" what is the condition of the secondary cdr?oldtimer27 (TechnicalUser)13 Mar 08 14:23 Do you have any CDR alarms? What version G3R is it?Enter "display system-parameters cdr" and verify the secondary cdr is programed to your 8400.Blight (Vendor)13 Mar 08 17:04 secondary end point is 58105 which is the data module # for the 8400, however when i status CDR secondary is down... I think we found the issue, now question is why is it down and getting it back up =)captainnick666 (TechnicalUser)14 Mar 08 7:25 what version G3R do you have?Blight (Vendor)14 Mar 08 10:41 G3R is 1.11oldtimer27 (TechnicalUser)14 Mar 08 12:03 try "release cdr secondary" if it passes check status.oldtimer27 (TechnicalUser)14 Mar 08 12:14 also try "status data-module XXX" and make sure it is not busied outtry "dispaly errors" and then tab down to catagory and put in cdr then "enter"Blight (Vendor)14 Mar 08 12:28 "Port","Mtce Name","Alt Name","Err Type","Aux Data","First Occur","Last Occur","Err Cnt","Err Rt","Rt Hr","State","Ac""","SEC-CDR","","257","0","03/12-08:47","03/14-09:27","255","5","113","a","y""","PRI-CDR","","513","59","03/12-11:46","03/12-11:46","1","0","0","a","y""","PRI-CDR","","257","60","03/12-11:47","03/14-09:28","255","5","86","a","y"that is what i have when i check errors.oldtimer27 (TechnicalUser)14 Mar 08 13:28 the 513 indicates trouble with the CDR device itself or the connection to it from the 8400b.the 257 is a link retry test.can you swap the cdr devices?oldtimer27 (TechnicalUser)14 Mar 08 16:26 sorry about that I forget what you had said earlier. We know:The CDR device is good. The PBX says the 8400 is inservice/idle.( no wiring issues to the 8400 but no data to it)This sort of points back to the processor to digital port.the processor connects to the port via PGATE-PORT on older ones. "status pgate-port"on newer systems it could go processor to digital via netstat-link with CLAN board.a little confused about a G3R 1.11 Blight (Vendor)19 Mar 08 11:03 ok, so I have fixed the problem... Turns out some how the 8400 Lost power and lost its memory... However we could never hyperterminal back into the 8400... We finally contacted avaya and their engineer worked with me on it for about 4 hours with no success telling me my modules were bad. In a last ditch effort I connected the 8400 to a No Modem cable and wallah, through in the following stringAT&C1&D2&S0=1&W0&W1&Y0S24=1Fired up the call recording software and services and bingo.Start A New ThreadPosting in the Tek-Tips forums is a member-only feature.Click Here to join Tek-Tips and talk with other members!Promoting, selling, recruiting and student postingare not allowed in the forums.Posting PoliciesLINK TO THIS FORUM!(Add Stickiness To Your Site By Linking To This Professionally Managed Technical Forum)TITLE: Avaya: DEFINITY systems Forum at Tek-TipsURL: http://www.tek-tips.com/threadminder.cfm?pid=690DESCRIPTION: Avaya: DEFINITY systems technical support forum and mutual help system for computer professionals.
